GAINESVILLE, GA, March 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Built in 1910, the stately Dunlap House anchors the northwest terminus of historic Green Street in Gainesville, Georgia. Much has changed since the early days of the Dunlap house, but one notable thread of continuity weaves its way through the pages of history. In the late 1800's, Gainesville and the surrounding area was renowned for its healing springs. People came from all over the country to seek relief from medical conditions ranging from gout to tropical diseases. Resorts sprang up, perhaps buoyed by the earlier gold rush in Dahlonega to the north, putting Northeast Georgia on the map.
In an excerpt from "The Mineral Waters of the United States," published in 1899, James K. Crook notes of Hall County in Gainesville, "The health tables of the United States Census show a lower death-rate in this portion of Georgia than to any other section of the country. White, in his Statistics of Georgia, makes the statement that no case of consumption was ever known to originate in Hall County. In close proximity to the thriving and rapidly growing little city are numerous mineral springs, some of which have come into use as health resorts."
A century later, entrepreneurs Gregg Hake and Erich Worster opened The Spa on Green Street in the Dunlap House. The Spa offers a unique combination of traditional spa services, individualized wellness programs and personalized fitness in its ten treatment rooms and fitness suites. Worster noted that, "Walking into the spa is both a trip back in time and a view of the future of preventive health care. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Dunlap House. It has served many purposes, ranging from its beginnings as a single family home to apartments, offices, to a bed and breakfast with famous guests."
Every year The Spa on Green Street opens the doors of the Dunlap House to the special celebration called "Christmas on Green Street" where thousands of people tour the street and celebrate the holiday in traditional style. Mr. Hake commented, "It is amazing to see how many people had personal experiences relating to the Dunlap House in one era or another. Whether friends with the children who lived there in the early 1900's or privileged to have tea with the ladies in the parlor later in the century, the stories and recollections are as rich as the soothing aromatherapy that now wafts through the halls of the Dunlap House."
The "Legacy Bath" spa treatment follows healing traditions of times past as aromatic essential oils and mineral rich salts create a bath experience that is both enjoyable and rejuvenating.
