MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, March 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Melbourne's annual celebration of comedy gets underway on March 24th, with some of the world's funniest acts preparing to grace the Australian city with their presence.
Running until April 18th, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival features stand-up, street performance, cabaret and theatre events, as well as film, music and the visual arts.
The festival was launched by Barry Humphries and Peter Cook in 1987 and has grown into one of Australia's largest cultural events, with venues all over the city getting in on the action.
Highlights of this year's programme are expected to include the Comedy All-Stars Supershow on the opening night, which will be hosted by Australian comedian and actor Paul McDermott.

This event aims to showcase the best young comedians in the country, with each performer being under 20 years old.
Overseas comedians scheduled to perform during the festival include Ireland's David O'Doherty, Jeff Green from England and Janeane Garofalo of the US.
All events are individually priced, the organisers have announced that the average ticket cost will be AU$24 in an attempt to keep the festival as accessible as possible.
