MADRID, SPAIN, March 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- An exhibition in Madrid's Museo Nacional del Prado is set to showcase the work of Pop Art legend Richard Hamilton and explain how he created the print of Picasso's Meninas.
The London-born artist produced the piece in 1973 and this display offers visitors staying in Madrid hotels a deeper understanding on the different phases that he went through to achieve the final result.
It was one of several pictures produced as part of Hamilton's Homage to Picasso and here Velazquez's Las Meninas painting has been subjected to an artistic exercise similar to that which Pablo Picasso sketched in 1957.
Las Meninas is one of Velazquez's most famous pieces and features the daughter of Felipe IV infanta Margarita surrounded by servants at the Alcazar Palace in Madrid.
Another celebrated artist who interpreted the same painting is Goya and anyone heading down to the exhibition will have the chance to see how all of these iconic figures are linked by the picture.
Art enthusiasts with a soft spot for the work of Velazquez may also want to check out The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit by John Singer Sargent, which is said to be heavily influenced by the Spanish artist.
Richard Hamilton: Picasso's Meninas will be displayed until May 30th, with tickets costing EUR8 and the venue opening from 09:00 to 20:00 from Tuesday to Sunday.
Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for Richard Hamilton: Picasso's Meninas is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hoteles Madrid as early as possible."
