John C. Hayes, Ph.D. Honored by Cambridge Who's Who

    CHICAGO, IL, March 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. John C. Hayes, President of Arthur Ashe Beach Park, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in public service.

As the president of Arthur Ashe Beach Park, Dr. Hayes is responsible for overseeing the official creation of Arthur Ashe Beach Park after helping to secure the land 15 years ago, working with state and city government officials and groups, organizing throughout the community and raising funds for the playground, tennis court, small beach and sculpture garden. Previously, he worked in the education field and taught health and physical education to seventh- and eighth-grade students for seven years. He was then an assistant principal for 26 years at the high school and junior high level. Overall, he has been involved in civic endeavors for 50 years. He attributes his success to his passion for his work and ability to organize a community.

Dr. Hayes received his Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Nova University in 1976, his Bachelor of Science in Education from Knoxville College in 1959 and his Master's Degree in Education from Roosevelt University. He serves as treasurer of the Knoxville College Alumni Association and is a member of the CAPS Program, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Chicago Assistant Principals Association. He also serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Youth Center. In 1994, he was honored with an Outstanding Service Award by Libby Elementary School and received the Outstanding Service Award from Chicago State University in 1987 and Phi Delta Kappa in 1973. In his spare time, he suports the Southern Poverty Law Center, the CAPS Program and the Chicago Youth Center.
