LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA, March 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People who are staying in Langkawi hotels during April may find that the nearby state of Perak offers some interesting entertainment.
On April 19th, Perak has its own state holiday to celebrate the birthday of its sultan.
Anyone travelling through the region at this time will find that many businesses are shut while everyone pays their respects to the state's ruler.
This year, the Sultan of Perak will be seeing in his 82nd birthday. Each year the ruler presents an honours list, much like those collated by the Queen in Britain.
Although the celebrations will only last for one day, there is still plenty to see and do in Perak, which is the second biggest state in Malaysia.
The area is also known as Land of Grace and boasts tropical rainforests and fruit orchards, which are particularly notable for the fruit pomelos because it is only grown in this part of Malaysia.
Perak is also home to several interesting Buddhist temples, including the Sam Poh Tong Temple, which is built into the edge of a cliff and incorporates the natural features, such as stalactites and stalagmites, into its design.
Another Buddhist temple worth a visit in the region is Perak Tong, which is located in the limestone caves of Gunung Rapat.
Both can be found within easy reach of the state's capital city, Ipoh.
