Some of his most famous work will be on display at this exhibition, with the two versions of The Artist and His Mother, as well as the "layered and translucent" Waterfall all available to view among others.

The Tate Modern describes Gorky - who lived from 1904 to 1948 - as one of the most powerful American painters of the century alongside other artistic heavyweights such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko - with paintings by both also on show in the building.

Tickets cost GBP10 and can be bought online or at the box office, with a free brochure included in this price.
