CareSource to Administer Montgomery County Care

County program to provide health care services for uninsured adults.

DAYTON, OH, April 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CareSource, a public-sector managed care company, is pleased to announce that it will be the managed care provider for the Montgomery County Care Program, a limited enrollment, pilot health care services program targeting eligible Montgomery County residents. The program will be administered by CareSource.

"We are pleased that Montgomery County has chosen to focus on giving uninsured adults access to healthcare," said Pamela Morris, President and CEO. "We've seen firsthand how valuable the managed care model can be to help improve healthcare for those who need it the most."

The Montgomery County Care program will assist eligible adults with their health care needs by providing basic primary care, selected outpatient services and a limited, generic-based pharmacy benefit.

CareSource partnered with Montgomery County to develop the program and will administer the county program based on its extensive public-sector managed care experience. Criteria for eligibility include:
- Montgomery County residents who are uninsured and between the ages of 19 and 65
- Individuals with household income below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Individuals not eligible for Ohio Medicaid or SCHIP, or any other type of public assistance

Montgomery County Care is a collaborative partnership with Montgomery County, CareSource, and Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton. Three CHCGD health centers will offer primary care services to Montgomery County Care participants. Initial enrollment will focus on patients using CHCGD clinics and frequent users of hospital emergency room services.

Montgomery County Care was developed out of the recommendations by the Montgomery County Health Care Safety Net Task Force, which included providing coverage for vulnerable populations under a managed care model. The program received a one-time funding award from the Montgomery County Human Services Levy as part of its efforts to improve the community's health care safety net for the County's most vulnerable populations. The Human Services Levy funding award will support up to 1,000 enrollees by the end of the first program year.

To cover the costs of managing the program, CareSource has committed to providing in-kind administrative services for the first year. In addition, the CareSource Foundation will provide funding for a Montgomery County Care Program Manager.
