LateRooms.com - Dusseldorf Music Fans Prepare for Schumannfest

Germany's classical music enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating this year's Schumannfest in Dusseldorf.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, April 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A major celebration of Romantic composer Robert Schumann is due to begin in Dusseldorf next month.

Schumannfest will run from May 28th to June 14th at venues around the city to mark the 200th anniversary of the great musician's birth.

Although he was born in the city of Zwickau, Schumann spent several years in Dusseldorf and the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia had an important influence on his life and work.

According to the festival organisers, the composer experienced a period of "exhilarating creativity" while living in the city with his wife Clara and their children.

The performers will attempt to recreate this feeling for people using hotels Dusseldorf during Schumannfest, which is set to feature soloists and orchestras from around the world.

Anticipated highlights include a special guest appearance from esteemed Argentinian conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim, who will be performing with the Staatskapelle Berlin - the orchestra of the Berlin State Opera.

Meanwhile, the Cologne Chamber Choir and the Collegium Cartusianum are due to present an interpretation of Schumann's oratorio Paradise and the Peri, directed by Peter Neumann.

A special project, known as From Foreign Countries and Peoples, has also been set up for the festival.

This concert series will feature seven performances from singers and musicians of various nationalities, including representatives of Taiwan, Norway, Estonia, Portugal and England.

Schumannfest is set to climax with Midsummer Night's Dreams, an evening-long celebration of the composer's work at the Schloss Benrath in Dusseldorf.

Tickets for the performances are individually priced, with some offering a relatively cheap night out and others reflecting the prestige of their star names.

The concert featuring Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin on June 9th is priced at EUR140 (GBP121.50).

One of the most important musical figures of the 19th century, Schumann turned his attention to composing after a hand injury meant he was unable to become virtuoso concert pianist.

Commenting on Schumannfest, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to Schumannfest and who need hotels Dusseldorf to book early to avoid disappointment."
