BRIGHTON, ENGLAND, May 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Spring is considered by many to be the most enjoyable time of the year for a walking holiday. Days are warm and sunny - rarely too hot - and the countryside is a wonderfully aromatic carpet of flowers, shrubs and highly-scented herbs. Here are some of our favourite places to visit.
Provence Coastal Walk
We just love the South of France at this time of year when cherry trees are in full blossom, and the markets are once again crammed with colourful fresh produce. Just breathing in the crisp clean air feels good! This gentle guided holiday walking in France takes you along lovely coastal paths, through pretty Provencal villages, and even includes a champagne lunch on a private sailing yacht! Departs Sundays in May (then again in September).
Secret Valleys of Ronda
Andalucia bursts into bloom in spring with aromatic jasmine and orange blossom perfuming the air. This independent walking holiday takes you deep into the Sierra de Grazelama - fabulous bird spotting - and up into gorgeous white villages of the Sierra de las Nieves. Excellent value too - even wine with dinner included. Departs selected Saturdays from 13 March onwards.
Ravello to Sorrento
Undoubtedly one of the most stunning of our walking in Italy holidays, this linear coastal route explores a landscape of dramatic cliffs, emerald seas, pastel-coloured villages, lemon groves and vine terraces. Travelling at your own pace, you'll combine the elegance of eternal favourites like Positano and Sorrento and make off-the-beaten-track discoveries in places few tourists ever see. Weekly departures from 4 April.
Islands of Sicily Walk
New for 2010, this 9-night holiday combines coastal walking on Sicily's eastern coast with panoramic island-hopping between the astonishingly beautiful Aeolian Islands - a string of seven volcanic islets famous for their smouldering green craters, dramatic lava trails and natural bubbling mud baths. Departs Sundays Apr-Jun inc (then again during Sep & Oct).
Undiscovered Mallorca Walk
Spring walking in Mallorca, with its array of scent and colour, is a rare and precious experience. Our super value, all-inclusive holiday explores the dramatic scenery of the island's western coast, an undiscovered region of rugged limestone cliffs, turquoise bays and sleepy artists' villages unchanged over the years. It's a world away from the coastal tourist hot-spots. Departs selected dates in March, April and May.
Calypso's Isle of Gozo
This sun-soaked Mediterranean island may be tiny but it packs quite a punch, with each day offering a montage of coastal tracks, gorgeous bays, tranquil gardens and ancient archaeological treasures. The walking is completely flexible - be as active, or not, as you choose - and you can extend/shorten your stay to suit. Departs most days (ex Jun-Aug).
Coastal & Country Tuscany
Foreign visitors have yet to discover the southwestern corner of Tuscany - a region of immaculately preserved medieval villages, secret cave dwellings, deserted beaches and remote off-shore islands. Your base is the luxurious Agriturismo Acquaviva with panoramic pool, well-maintained gardens, gourmet cuisine and private vineyard. Departs Saturdays from 3 April onwards.
Secrets of Andalucia
Our walking holidays in Spain attract bird watchers year round, but now is the best time to spot many wintering species, together with those arriving for the summer months. Look out for rare black vultures in the Tejeda National Park, and majestic golden eagles soaring above the almond groves of the fertile Cajula Valley. Departs selected Saturdays/ Sundays (exc Jun-Aug).
Highlights of Tenerife Walk
A naturalists' paradise, the spring weather in Tenerife is so perfect for wild flowers, butterflies and bird-life that our walks are an explosive celebration of vibrant colour! This twin centre independent holiday takes in the east and western coast, exploring prehistoric forests, terraced vineyards, colourful fishing harbours and tiny mountain villages where locals welcome walkers with open arms! Departs selected dates until 13 Apr then again from 5 Oct.
Exploring the French Caribbean
If you've a couple of weeks to spare, then the French Caribbean offers warm, sunny days, white sand beaches, tropical rainforest and stunning ocean views. You'll spend time discovering coastal mangrove trails on butterfly-shaped Guadeloupe, before heading on to Martinique, "Island of Flowers" and a haven for bird-watchers. Departs selected dates Mar-May inclusive.
