/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY, June 23, 2006 - Medium, an emerging art initiative dedicated to exposing new artists and fostering an open creative community, announced today the eight artists who will be showcased at its September launch. Their participation in the exclusive event will give them a level of publicity, exposure and business experience never before offered to new entrants into the art community.
Olivia Williams (SVA), Erika Fortner (Pratt), Yulia Pinkusevich (Mason Gross, Rutgers), Alex Stone-Tharp (Sarah Lawrence), John Tzelepis (Pratt), Annysa Ng (SVA), Janna Washington (NYU) and Devin Powers (Brooklyn College) were chosen from a pool of 78 submissions. The judging panel included members of Medium as well as NYC gallery owners, contemporary artists and critics.
"The artists we chose have true talent and a positive, collaborative spirit," said Medium founder Irene Polnyi, "That's what Medium is all about."
"Today's collectors are buying what they love, not hunting for what has the highest sell-back value," said Lida Sunderland, Medium Artist Relations Director and selection panel member. "When buyers look for young artists and designers, they're turning to us."
During the summer, Medium will also hold collaborative ArtParties to extend the role of the gallery to encourage artist collaboration. These events will be announced on MediumNYC.com, an interactive online art community that provides year-long artist exposure and support.
