The organisers remarked: "The exhibition looks at the way that Turner produced his work in full awareness of the art of the great Old Masters, whom he studied in depth, while simultaneously paying attention to the artistic activity of a number of his contemporaries."

Some of the artists that are connected to Turner in this way include Rembrandt and Claude Lorraine.

Entrance to the Museo Nacional Del Prado costs EUR8 (GBP6.80) and the museum is open from 09:00 to 20:00 Tuesdays to Sundays.
