The Basque Symphony Orchestra is on hand to provide the music to this classic tale, while Maria Bayo leads a group of singers from the Choral Society of Bilbao - an organisation that was involved in the promotion of the original piece.

Mirentxu premiered at the Campos Eliseos Theatre in the city on May 31st 1910, but this time will be performed at the Teatro Arriaga on various dates between June 19th and 26th, with each performance beginning at 20:00 (local time).

The artistic piece is described by the venue as a "Basque lyrical idyll in two acts", with the original writer - Jesus Guridi - lauded for influences he used from the region's folklore.

Guridi was born in Vitoria and studied in Bilbao, Madrid, Paris, Cologne and Liege.

He is celebrated in Spain for his compositions, which are influenced by chamber music, zarzuela, opera and religious pieces.

Tickets for this concert range from EUR7.20 (GBP6.10) to EUR38.

Another performance that people may be interested in seeing at the venue is Babiloniako Ioreak, which is a piece of experimental theatre.
