The grass keeps getting greener for the Manhattan Golf Classic on Governors Island.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY, June 30, 2006 - Golf Legend Tom Watson has accepted an invitation to participate in the Classic's main attraction, the Skins Game on Sunday, October 22, 2006. Tom joins World #1 Annika Sorenstam, LPGA Sensation Natalie Gulbis, and #1 Celebrity golfer Dennis Quaid.

Watson, in an interview today, was singing the praise of New York's golfing community. "New York fans are among the best in the sport and I know they're going to experience an exciting golf tournament."

Watson will team up with Quaid to battle against Sorenstam and Gulbis in a veritable battle of the sexes to benefit two New York City based charities, Toys for Hospitalized Children and The Academy for Sports Marketing in Harlem.

Watson's accomplishments are as numerous as they are impressive. During his time on the PGA Tour, he won thirty-nine Tour victories, seven of which were Majors. These include two wins at the Masters Tournament, one at the US Open, and a remarkable five victories at the British Open. Currently competing on the PGA Champions Tour, Watson has eight Tour Victories to his credit, including two at the Senior British Open and one at the Senior PGA Championship.

Needless to say the invitation from the Manhattan Golf Classic caught Watson by surprise. Although he has jetsetted to every major port of call throughout the world in his playing career, he has yet to take to the fairways of New York City. "I have played across the world but never imagined that I would have the pleasure of competing in Manhattan," Watson said. "What a great honor it is to play in the first-ever professional golf tournament in NYC's history."
