BERLIN, GERMANY, June 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Beach volleyball is an activity usually associated with sunny coastal resorts, but this summer one of the sport's biggest events will take place in the centre of Berlin.
The German capital's O2 World arena is set to host the European Beach Volleyball Championships from August 11th to 15th.
As the only international beach volleyball tournament to take place in Germany this year, this prestigious event is sure to attract supporters from all over the country to accommodation in Berlin.
Many of Europe's top players will be heading to the city, with Germany's reigning world champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann aiming to claim another major trophy.
The duo are likely to receive plenty of vocal support from the home crowd, although the other nations will also benefit from the lively atmosphere at the O2 World.
Both male and female competitions are featured in the tournament, with 24 teams taking part in each.
Fans can expect a host of exciting and highly competitive clashes on the sand, as prize money worth EUR200,000 is at stake.
Tickets for the finals, which will take place on Sunday August 15th, are priced between EUR21 and EUR169.50.
Last year, the European championships took place in Sochi, Russia, where the Netherlands claimed the gold medal in the men's event for the second consecutive year.
The championships have been held in Germany twice before, but arrive in Berlin for the first time this year.
Hamburg hosted the 2008 event, while the 2004 tournament was staged in Timmendorfer Strand on the Bay of Lubeck.
Other events taking place at the O2 World this summer include concerts by Mark Knopfler, Rod Stewart and Sting.
Commenting on the tournament, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to the European Beach Volleyball Championships and who need hotels Berlin to book early to avoid disappointment."
