FitFlop is Sandal of Choice for Summer Holidays

    HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, June 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- FitFlop sandals dominated an independent summer sandals survey conducted at major UK airports during the half term break.

The UK summertime began with soaring temperatures and clear blue skies without a wisp of volcanic ash in sight for half-term holiday makers.

Following a massive surge in sandals sales triggered by the warm weather, a survey of 1,000 women was conducted at Stanstead, Heathrow and Manchester airports by retailer FitnessFootwear.com to discover the most popular women's summer sandals.

Amidst the collection of Birkenstocks and Havaianas, FitFlops triumphed above the other brand sandals in the summer sandals survey with approximately 22% of women wearing the toning sandal on their holiday.

Founded in 2006 by Marcia Kilgore, also the founder of Bliss Spas, the FitFlop has enjoyed phenomenal success since its celebrity endorsement on the Oprah Winfrey show in the US.

Engineered with doctors David Cook and Darren James at the London South Bank University, every FitFlop features the patent-pending FitFlop MicroWobbleboard midsole to tone muscles in the legs and bum through simulating the effects of barefoot walking.

Kilgores concept of a shoe that could give a woman a workout while she walked originally took the form of a lightweight summer sandal, which soon became known at the FitFlop Walkstar.

The FitFlop range grew in the following years to include the FitFlop Electra and FitFlop Oasis sandals while 2010 brings a new range of FitFlop footwear to the fore in the form of furry boots and casual sneaker designs.

With a legion of die hard FitFlop fans, the toning footwear brand has a bright future ahead of it, despite a massive 57% of women surveyed having purchased non-branded flip flops for their holidays.

The great thing about cheap flip flops is that you can afford to have a pair in every colour, explained Emma Barlow, Fitness Footwear Company Director. But a cheap pair of flip flops will never be as comfortable as a pair of FitFlops. Everyone we spoke to who wear wearing FitFlops had chosen them for their extra cushioning or toning.

The survey also found that approximately 8% of women wore Birkenstock sandals, 4% of women wore Havaianas sandals and the remaining 9% comprised of various high street store sandals.

For many, FitFlop sandals were worn for orthopaedic relief or for the added toning benefits that they offer.

In the meantime retailers are bolstering stocks of FitFlop sandals as sales are expected to soar once again with the rising temperatures forecast for July and August.
