SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, June 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As one of Australia's most popular coastal areas, Bondi Beach is traditionally viewed as a place to enjoy summer pursuits such as surfing and sun-bathing.
However, a host of special events are taking place on and around the beach during the Australian winter, as the local authorities are keen for people using Sydney hotels to continue visiting the area.
Holidaymakers may want to swap their surf boards for a pair of ice skates between July 16th and 25th, as a 600 sq m ice rink will be erected alongside Bondi's white sands during this time.
As part of the Bondi Winter Magic festival, the beach area will be transformed into an Alpine "Berg station" - the highest spot reachable by cable car at a ski resort.
Tickets for the ice rink will be priced at AU$17 for adults and AU$12 for children, with an additional AU$5 charge for skate hire.
In addition to the skating, visitors can enjoy a drink at the St Moritz bar, warm up next to roaring open fires and refuel with some hearty winter cuisine in the Alpine Ski Hut.
Throughout June, July and August, the streets around Bondi Beach will be illuminated with special winter lights for the festival.
