NAPLES, ITALY, June 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A temporary exhibition of Franz West's work has opened at Naples' Museo D'Arte Contemporanea Donna Regina (Madre) called Auto Theater.
The organisers explained that the name of the show is a nod towards the interactive nature of his creations, which will be on display at Madre until August 23rd.
This retrospective of West's work is on loan from the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and features items created by the artist to form an invitation to a dialogue.
Madre explained: "In biology, the term adaptation means the ability of an organism to change in relation to the environment which he comes in contact with; in the 1970s, Franz West drew on these scientific postulates, applying them to his own work."
More than 80 works are on show at this exhibition, which may entice some art enthusiasts to book themselves into hotels in Naples to visit the institution.
Among these creations there are site-specific installations, papier-mache sculptures and collages reflecting society at the time, as well as several of the most significant pieces from his Adaptives work.
While visiting the venue, people can also pop into the bookshop and purchase a souvenir publication by curators Kasper Konig, Mario Codognato and Peter Pakesch.
The building is closed on Tuesday, but is open from 10:00 until 21:00 every other day, except at weekends when it does not shut until midnight.
Entrance costs EUR7 (GBP5.80).
For more information on this event visit the Madre website or contact the venue on +39 081 193 13 016.
Commenting on Auto Theater, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to Auto Theater and who need hotel Napoli to book early to avoid disappointment."
