BERLIN, GERMANY, July 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Berlin's Tanz im August event, which gets underway in mid-August, promises to be a dance festival with a difference.
Rather than dressing up in skimpy neon outfits and stocking up on glow sticks, those who fancy stepping out from their Berlin hotels to catch one of the shows are better advised to dress with a little more sophistication.
The event - which kicks off on August 19th 2010 - will see dancers from 19 countries put on 38 performances, celebrating the works of internationally renowned choreographers while also showcasing newer pieces.
As well as exploring the history of dance, Tanz im August will also endeavour to make human rights one of its central themes.
Organisers have claimed that the world of dance is in an ideal position to give social criticism on an array of topics related to this issue, including the ban on burkas, discrimination based on sexual orientation and poor working conditions.
A range of other activities have been planned along with the evening performances, with dance workshops, discussions, films and lectures also set to take place.
The shows will be staged at Berlin's Podewil and HAU 2 venues, with tickets costing EUR60 (GBP50). This package will get people into seven performances of their choice and can be redeemed at either location.
For more information on this event, visit the Tanz im August website or contact the organiser on (+49) 30 247 49 756.
