SAN JOSE, CA, July 31, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Echola Systems today announced that the company has launched a range of next generation switched power distribution units. All models of these switched Power Distribution Units (PDUs) provide users with the ability to individually control and monitor power of each device connected to the outlets of these PDUs through a network connection.
The Echola Systems claims that their PDUs can withstand more than 1 million switching operations, even with high current loads, than any traditional switched PDUs. Thanks to the hybrid relay technology which uses combination of electro-mechanical relay and solid-state relay for switching outlet. The traditional switched PDUs use either conventional electro-mechanical relays or solid-state relays for switching. Both relays have problems of their own: Heat is the primary cause of failure in solid-state relays, while electrical arcing is the primary cause of failure in electro-mechanical relays. But Echola systems PDUs use patent pending shared hybrid relays which are designed to take advantages of each technology to offset weaknesses of each.
The Echola Systems PDUs support features that help to conserve electricity either directly or indirectly. The individual outlet current monitoring feature helps to reduce energy costs by identifying the energy abusing equipment. They also support features that help to save energy by shutting down unused equipment through scheduled shutdown and Master outlet control functionalities. The scheduled timer feature can be used to schedule a planned shutdown or power cycle at specific day or date and time. Master outlet control feature on the other hand allows users to assign one of the outlets as master outlet for other outlets. This is useful when you want to switch off all other outlets when the master outlet is switched off or equipment connected to the master outlet goes to standby mode (drawing very little or no current).
Individual outlet overload protection protects any equipment connected to the outlet that exceeds its maximum capacity. This is like having dedicated circuit breaker for equipment connected to each outlet of these PDUs. The built-in temperature sensor in all models can help to identify poor cooling/hot spots and thus make cooling more efficient by creating clear path to the high density equipment/racks. Moreover these switched PDUs themselves consume very less power which means little or no heat is generated; For instance, SPDU-108M model consumes less than 3 Watts of power only when all 8 outlets are in ON state.
User can configure, monitor and control the PDU through user friendly web interface. It also supports control and monitor through SNMP and telnet interfaces. The web interface uses AJAX for providing near real-time update on current consumption for each outlets, total current, temperature and outlet statuses.
Echola Systems offers these Switched PDUs at the lowest price available through their online store at www.echola.com/power.
