WASHINGTON, DC, August 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ocean Ana Rising, Inc. (OAR, Inc.) and mobile digital artist, Mia Robinson, seek to raise awareness about violence and abuse towards women using a unique and cutting-edge art form. "A Healing Touch: Digital Offerings of Peace for Women Survivors" is a mobile digital art exhibition and fundraiser featuring the peaceful offerings of 25 international artists who exclusively draw and paint on iPhones, iPads and Androids. The show opens Friday, August 20th at the L'Eclat de Verre Versailles Gallery in Georgetown, DC with a private opening reception from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
Artist and Curator Mia Robinson ("MRob") is on the pulse of this emerging medium and wants the work of the mobile digital art community to have a lasting impact. Robinson "want[s] more than anything for women to feel empowered by the images in the show." The exhibition will showcase a select group of international artists who paint, photograph and sketch exclusively on mobile wireless devices (iPhones, iPads, Androids, wireless graphic tablets, etc.)--in most cases with the tips of their fingers.
With the advent of mobile "touch" devices such as the iPhone, the Android, and the iPad, artists of all backgrounds have been exploring the possibilities behind the new "canvas," and in turn, these artists have created a global community. "A Healing Touch: Digital Offerings of Peace for Women Survivors" seeks to expand the community further. Via 25 visual offerings, the exhibition extends the artists' "touch" beyond their devices and into the lives of women survivors. Featured artist, Helene Goldberg states, "I love the notion of survival and rebirth that informs this show. I am a therapist and a survivor. I was especially eager to produce a painting for other survivors."
It is the combined effort of artists and Oar, Inc. to cultivate a stimulating dialogue that will challenge all who attend to reflect and recognize the collective stories and heart-songs of female survivors. Through 25 mobile digital paintings, their story is a triumphant testimonial of healing, by bringing to light a global crisis and finally, addressing and giving a voice to the silent suffering.
"A Healing Touch" will run from August 20th through Sept 4th at L'Eclat De Verre Versailles Gallery - 3336 M Street, NW, Georgetown DC. The private opening reception, catered by co-sponsors, Flavor Ink Catering and Vhen Chefs, will feature a live iPad painting demonstration by Mia Robinson. Attending guests will also receive a special gift from the artist. Tickets to the Private Reception are $25 and can be purchased at www.oarinc.org/digitalartevent. The exhibition also features an outreach workshop conducted by Mia Robinson,"When Left to Your Own Devices" where 15 pre-selected teenaged girls will learn how to paint on iPads and iPhones. The workshop will be held at the gallery on August 21st, 2010.
The show is produced in collaboration with Silver Starr Art Studios and co-sponsored by L'Eclat de Verre Versailles Gallery and Framing Shop, eFair, Inc., EChic Media, Inc. and Sirkies, Flavor Ink Catering and Vhen Chef Services. Proceeds and donations from the event will go to support Ocean Ana Rising, Inc. and future outreach initiatives. For more information, contact Nina A.
