PARIS, FRANCE, August 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fans of experimental jazz have the perfect reason to book a Paris hotel later this summer.
The city's Jazz a la Villette festival is scheduled to begin on Tuesday August 31st, offering music lovers a 13-day programme of special performances from a variety of artists.
As the event exists to promote jazz as a constantly evolving genre, the chosen performers are those who also embrace other forms of music, including hip-hop and soul.
Held at the Parc de la Villette and in other venues around Paris, the festival offers jazz fans a chance to experience new sounds and enjoy old favourites, often within the same evening.
Anticipated highlights of this year's event include a performance from Chicago-born rap pioneer Gil Scott-Heron on September 8th.
Considered by many critics to be the inventor of hip-hop music, the veteran performer will be supported by poet and rapper Saul Williams.
Other concerts due to attract large crowds include a collaborative performance featuring legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen, Finnish saxophonist Jimi Tenor and African trio Kabu Kabu on September 1st.
The final night of the festival on September 12th will feature US hip-hop group The Roots.
Events at Jazz a la Villette are individually priced, ranging from EUR12 to EUR35 (GBP9.90 to GBP29).
For more information on this event, visit the Jazz a la Villette website or contact the organisers on (+33) 01 44 84 44 84.
