Dressed Their Best: Fast-Growing Foster Kids Get Outfitted by Sleep Train's Clothing Drive

More than 7,400 much-needed clothing items donated to annual drive for local foster children.

SEATTLE, WA, August 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Demonstrating a consecutive year-over-year increase of nearly 15%, Sleep Train's Foster Kids Clothing Drive has attracted the support of its community of generous individuals and businesses that contributed clothing to help area foster children look sharp this fall. California's more than 80,000 foster kids are benefiting from the 7,470 items of clothing donated, including new shirts, sweaters, jeans, socks, and undergarments.

"Our kids are overjoyed with the opportunity to pick out new clothes, especially as they are heading back to school," said Janice Montgomery, Assistant Director at Sacramento Child Advocates. "For some of our children, getting to own brand new clothing is a rare occasion. So, something as simple as a never-been-worn pair of jeans and a new windbreaker for the fall has a huge impact on a foster child's self-confidence, and also reminds them that they are surrounded by a community of caring individuals."

Sleep Train (www.sleeptrain.com), the number one bedding specialist on the West Coast, holds its annual clothing drive as part of an ongoing effort to provide foster children with material items that their foster families might not be able to afford. The new clothing items are distributed among Sleep Train's foster care partners who provide the foster children and their families with support and help to obtain the clothing they need for replacing items that don't fit or are too tattered to continue to wear.

"As we watch our Foster Kids Program flourish and increase in its reach and impact year after year, it's astounding to see how our company can affect change for a group of such deserving individuals," said Terry Horsley, vice president of brand strategy for Sleep Train. "Helping our foster children maintain a positive self-image while wearing clothes that fit is crucial to paving the way for lifelong success, and we're proud to have such tremendous support from our community, local businesses and our employees."
