KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, August 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The tenth annual Malaysian International Gourmet Festival will be celebrated at participating restaurants in Kuala Lumpur throughout October 2010.
Having first taken place back in 2001 with the support of an intrepid group of 13 local eateries, the event has since gone from strength to strength.
Its organisers originally came up with the idea to host the festival in response to the shortage of fine dining experiences available in the Malaysian capital.
Although tourists are able to enjoy a real melting pot of different cuisine styles during their time in Kuala Lumpur hotels, up until a few years ago there was very little choice in terms of the number of high-end restaurants in the area.
Instead, holidaymakers and locals alike would flock to traditional eateries or sample hawker food.
Throughout the festival, a number of the best dining spots in Kuala Lumpur offer up cut-price menus in a bid to make the experience of eating out as accessible as possible.
"Festival offers ... not only help attract a new generation of diners, but they also persuade existing diners to try different venues and dine out more often," the organisers explain.
Malay restaurant Bunga Emas, Swiss bistro Chalet and Japanese establishment Sagano are just a few of the Kuala Lumpur haunts scheduled to take part this year.
The event runs from October 1st to 31st.
