SURREY, ENGLAND, August 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As UK tourists travel off on their summer vacations, a new piece of research is highlighting holiday fashion faux pas. The survey's results have shown that people consider socks and sandals to be the worst holiday fashion, while beer bellies on show is also considered a no-no. The survey also showed that people from the Midlands are considered to have the worst dress sense.

Tourists from Birmingham and the Midlands have worst fashion sense in the UK, followed by Newcastle & the North East and then Scotland.
Americans voted as having worst fashion sense in world, Italians as best.
600 UK tourists and travellers were polled in the research and asked their views on British holidaymakers and their clothing. Small tight men's swimming trunks, thongs on women, sunburn and wearing too many logos were considered the worst fashion crimes. A third reported that women in football shirts was an unattractive sight, while 20% say that men wearing football shirts on holiday is also unfashionable.
The survey showed which Brits have the worst holiday dress sense, with 1 in 5 commenting that Birmingham and Midlands residents have the worst, followed by people from Newcastle and the North East, Scotland, Essex and then Manchester and the North West. Those travellers and tourists from Yorkshire and East England were voted the best dressed.
The poll was carried out by money saving website DiscountVouchers.co.uk, and revealed that the worst dressed tourist nationality is the Americans for their loud shirts plus socks and sandals. The Germans, the Greeks and then the British came along next. Italians were voted the best dressed followed by the Spanish.
83% (92% of men) of people said that men dress worse than women, though men are more likely to buy new clothes (43%) for a holiday than women (32%). 57% of men and 68% of women admit to still wearing holiday clothes which are 5 years old or more.
Reasons for buying new holiday clothes were polled too, with two thirds saying they buy items if they look good on them, while 20% say their main driver is price. 14% of people spend less than GBP50 on a holiday wardrobe, while 70% spend between GBP50 and GBP200. 2% said they spend more than GBP500 for holiday clothing.
