Gap Adventures Congratulates Mohamed Soliman - 2010 Travel Documentary Scholarship Winner

Gap Adventures Mohamed Soliman of Cairo as the winner of the Travel Documentary Scholarship for 2010.

TORONTO, ON, August 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gap Adventures, an award-winning adventure travel company committed to changing people's lives through unique experiences, and World Nomads, a leading global travel safety products and services provider, have announced Mohamed Soliman of Cairo as the winner of the Travel Documentary Scholarship for 2010.

Mohamed emerged victorious from over 178 quality entries submitted for the scholarship from around the globe, including strong entries from Africa, India, Alaska, South America, South East Asia and Papua New Guinea. However, it was Mohamed Soliman's piece on Northern Uganda, which stood out for the judges.

Mohamed's winning video documented the strife in Northern Uganda through the eyes of a teenager - poignantly showing the loss he suffered and the way in which this extraordinary young man is learning to embrace life again.

"Mohamed's video obviously impressed the judges of the 2010 Travel Documentary Scholarship and it is easy to see why. Mohamed's entry was extremely moving - and dealt with this heartbreaking story in a very sensitive way," said Gap Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip. "Through the Travel Documentary Scholarship, I am looking forward to seeing Mohamed continue to develop as a film maker and use his travelling experiences to continue his great work."

As the winner, Mohamed will work alongside 2010 Travel Documentary Scholarship judge Trent O'Donnell in the Amazon as he films a documentary on sustainable tourism, taking part in a special project with Gap Adventures, exploring the Amazonian jungle and homestaying with the indigenous Quichua community.

Bruce Poon Tip - Gap Adventures founder will join the trip, which will see him revisit Ecuador's spectacular Interior and Amazon lowlands. It's been 20 years since the first Gap Adventures trip was run in the Amazon and alongside Bruce they will gain unique access and insight into the lives of the Quichua community understanding how sustainable tourism has positively impacted their community.
