ATLANTA, GA, September 15, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Atlanta shredding company Shred-Green is hosting a charity Atlanta paper shredding event on October 2 to benefit the Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics (GMSO). Shred-Green has been involved with GMSO since May of 2010, and the Atlanta shredding fundraiser event is part of their overall sponsorship of the nonprofit organization.
Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to providing mentally challenged adults in Gwinnett County with the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports programs, promoting interpersonal connections and self-confidence. The organization is part of an effort to remedy the lack of programming available to these adults after the completion of high school. GMSO is affiliated with Special Olympics Georgia, a state-run program. However, the state funds do not filter down to the county level, meaning that GMSO must do their own fund-raising. A donation of one dollar per day would supply enough money for one athlete to participate for a year.
To assist GMSO in raising funds to support its program, Shred-Green is hosting an Atlanta document shredding charity event on October 2. The event will take place from 9am to 2pm at Bethesday Community Park and Senior Center, located off Ronald Regan Parkway and Bethesday Church Road. Guests can bring boxes of personal documents to shred, at $5 per box. The proceeds will go directly to help athletes compete in the Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics.
The Atlanta shredding company plans to continue its fundraising efforts for GMSO, and has another program planned for after the Atlanta paper shredding charity event. Through this program, when a business places one of Shred-Green's bins in their offices and signs up for Shred-Green's Atlanta document shredding services, 10% of the monthly service charge will go the GMSO.
Kathy Perkins, co-owner of Shred-Green, also personally volunteers for the Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics, serving as secretary on the GMSO advisory board. As she explains, "Shred-Green is always looking for ways to give back to the community, and GMSO is a great match for us. They are located near us in Gwinnett, and they have a passion for helping those who are disabled and do not have the opportunities that others have."
Shred-Green considers their commitment to community to be a factor that sets them apart form other shredding services in Atlanta. They look forward to a long relationship with Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics, and hope that the money raised through their fund-raising events will allow a greater number of intellectually challenged adults to participate in GMSO's athletic programs.
