Rogue Egyptologist to Give Lecture in Kingston, NY

    KINGSTON, NY, September 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Anthony West has been knocking the dust off academic Egyptology for four decades. He will bring his humor-laced mix of science and mysticism to The Beahive in Kingston , N.Y. on Sept. 25th in a Powerpoint lecture "Magical Egypt: A Symbolist Tour".

John Anthony West is an Egypt scholar and the most prominent champion of the "Symbolist" school of Egyptology -- which demonstrates that the ancient Egyptian religion was in no sense pre-rational superstition, but rather a coherent doctrine, consistent with the most advanced contemporary science. West will discuss topics such as sacred geometry, the "gods" as cosmic principles and Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife relating them to current beliefs, inviting listeners to re-examine human civilization in its entirety, both where we've been, and where we're going.

West's scholarship as an Egyptologist has been the subject of many magazine articles, academic debates and in 1993 his work was the subject of an Emmy Award winning NBC Special, The Mystery of the Sphinx, viewed by more than 30,000,000 people. A sequel to the special, about a still-mysterious but clearly evident "lost civilization" is currently in pre-production.

West's lively lecture, slideshow, and discussion on Sept. 25th will serve as vivid foretaste and invitation to join him on his personally guided, autumn 2011 study tour of Egypt, sponsored by Chronogram magazine. As he puts it: "Egypt is like sex: You can read all about it; you can even look at pictures. But until you experience it, you understand nothing," West adds: "You do not have to be religious to understand the truth of, 'By their fruits you shall know them'."
