COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND, September 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A week-long programme of concerts dedicated to JS Bach is set to take place in Bath next month.
The seventh Bach Festival, organised by leading local choir group the Chantry Singers, will feature musical events at the Abbey, the Guildhall and the Assembly Rooms.
Classical music fans with Cotswold hotel bookings can head to the Somerset city on October 16th to hear the St Matthew Passion.
This rendition of one of the German composer's most moving compositions is due to open the festival at Bath Abbey.
Described by the organisers as "the final glory of one of the most productive periods of Bach's life and a masterpiece of classical sacred music", the St Matthew Passion will feature a performance from James Gilchrist in the role of the Evangelist.
Soloists Mhairi Lawson, Clare Wilkinson, James Oxley and Henry Waddington are also set to bring this unforgettable work to life.
The Bach Festival will run until October 23rd, with many other performances taking place over the seven days.
Organist David Briggs is scheduled to present a lunchtime concert at Bath Abbey on October 22nd, when he will aim to demonstrate the composer's influence on subsequent generations.
Events at the Bach Festival are individually priced, with a seat for the St Matthew Passion costing between GBP10 and GBP30.
For more information on this event, visit the Chantry Singers website or contact the organisers on 01225 463362.
