COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND, September 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Travellers heading to the Cotswolds in October should find time to visit the Gypsy Horse Fair in Stow-on-the-Wold.
It will be the second edition of this fun-filled day to take place in 2010, with the event scheduled for October 21st.
There is plenty of history behind the occasion, but these days it sees hundreds of beautiful horses paraded and traded between gypsies from all over the UK.
It is quite a sight for attendees visiting from their Cotswold hotel, with so many of the magnificent beasts on display, while Cotswold Life reports that there are often many gypsies present in traditional dress.
According to the Cotswold Blog, the origins of the fair go back as far as 714 AD, when Stow was able to provide shelter and stabling for travellers to come to the town to trade their goods, which led to a market being developed.
The online resource revealed that Stow was granted the charter to have a fair twice a year from 1476 and the original dates still stand today.
It explained the autumn edition of the fair will always be held on the nearest Thursday to October 24th - the feast of Edward the Confessor - while the spring version occurs on the nearest Thursday to May 12th, which is the feast of Saints Phillip and James.
Details of pricing and opening hours have yet to be released.
