Jackson Design & Remodeling Wins Two National Kitchen and Bath Association Awards

    SAN DIEGO, CA, September 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) is proud to announce that it has won two National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) first place awards for best Powder Room and best Large Bathroom. The awards entries included projects from San Diego and Los Angeles and the winners were announced at the annual joint chapters meeting held this year in San Diego. All winning projects will be featured in the October and November issues of San Diego Home & Garden Lifestyles Magazine.

JDR Designers Tatiana Machado-Rosas and Sol Quintana Wagoner designed the award-winning bathrooms.

The powder room design balances the home's Santa Fe aesthetic with contemporary flair. An intriguing focal point is established with a rustic sink formed from a one-of-a-kind boulder. The large mirror, inset in a slate hexagon mosaic accent wall, reflects and emphasizes the striking boulder sink, while also exaggerating the size of the room.

"We chose materials that would enhance the appealing irregularities inherent in nature while strengthening a relationship to the outdoors, including slate mosaics on the walls, Limestone Napolina flooring and distressed woods," said Machado-Rosas. "A floating globe pendant light adds a note of contemporary whimsy. The color palette is inspired by the desert and designed to add elements of light, interest and surprise to the small space."

Key elements of the large bathroom include minimalist aesthetic, with white and gray as the primary colors. The tile floor was selected in a warm earth tone to bring balance to the large space. A row of unadorned windows were placed high enough to let abundant light and natural beauty into the room, while allowing for privacy.

"One of the interesting elements we used in this large bathroom was a bathtub, designed with a recessed base that creates an illusion of floating," said Quintana Wagoner. "In the shower, touches of colored tile, square fixtures, and a functional yet sleek seating area lend sophisticated individuality to the design."
