SUN CITY, AZ, October 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kalena teaches the following monthly classes, as well as 1- or 2-day seminars: Hawaiian (Ancient and Modern), Tahitian, Fijian, Tongan, Maori New Zealand, and Samoan. In addition to dance classes, she conducts Tahitian drumming and Samoan fire/knife dance seminars. Polynesian dance is for all ages, men and women. Kalena specifically teaches children ages 5 to 17 years old. She welcomes all shapes and sizes to participate and performance opportunities are available.
Dance performances are throughout the year. In addition, some students accompany Kalena to perform at professional events and are invited to join the dance company. They are available for private parties, wedding receptions, corporate functions, any occasion.
Kalena says, "When you become part of my halau (Hula School), you become ohana (family). We get together for social functions outside of dance, such as dinner, shopping, etc". Other benefits from Polynesian dance is that it builds self esteem, improves social skills, helps overcome stage fright, improves your coordination, excellent for burning fat and calories. You can burn over 100 calories in 30 minutes learning Polynesian dance. In other words, you can dance off two to three pounds in a half hour during a Tahitian dance lesson. It also helps exercise the mind by memorizing the words, music and dance routine. It is a heart-healthy dance.
Tropical Polynesian Productions' mission has always been "Keeping It Alive and Passing It On". It is Kalena's desire to continue to perpetuate Polynesian culture through events, educational programs, classes, and seminars. She will travel out of state to conduct seminars.
Kalena founded Tropical Polynesian Productions in 2007. They frequently collaborate with their sister halau (hula school) Napua O' Polynesia, in Providence, RI. They are known for its energetic and upbeat dances. They both have been invited to perform at the World Invitational Hula Festival in Hawaii (www.worldhula.com) next year in November 2011.
Kalena is currently teaching Polynesian dance classes in Peoria, AZ. New classes start the first Thursday of every month. You may contact Kalena at 623-255-8491 and/or visit her website at www.tropicalpolynesianproductions.com for class location and times.
