SURREY, ENGLAND, October 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Car hire has been donated for a Diabetes UK fundraising event by a leading car hire price comparison website, known as Carrentals.co.uk. The event saw three dedicated volunteers become three legged and climb some of the country's highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland.
Steven Craig, Ann Bentley and Claire Moon are the three who took the challenge and have been helping the charity Diabetes UK raise money for care holidays for kids with type 1 diabetes. The trio revealed that they all have diabetes and were diagnosed from a very young age, they have for more than 15 years been committed to helping the charity with the running of the holidays. A personal connection was linked to the sponsoring of the even, by Managing Director Gareth Robinson who revealed that his connection was his young 13 year old daughter who also has type 1 diabetes.
Gareth revealed, "As my daughter has type 1 diabetes this is a cause that is very close to me personally, and I know first-hand how important it is for both the children with the condition and their families that extra support is provided. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to help Steven, Ann and Claire raise the large amount of money they have done already for such as brilliant and worthwhile cause."
The event was conducted over five days by the trio of volunteers, who climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike whilst they were three legged. Their tough challenge started in the north in Scotland where they then worked their way down to Cumbria and then finished their incredible challenge on the peak of Snowdon.
Claire Moon, recently stated, "We have been helping the charity Diabetes UK, for several years now however this year there has not been as many donations, which are vital to us as the holidays are only funded through donations. In a bid to keep these fantastic holidays going we decided to take this challenged to raise money. The holidays need to keep going as they are vital forms of respite for children, so they can spend time with other children who have type 1 diabetes and then understand they are not alone."
The holidays provided by Diabetes UK are offered to children who have type 1 diabetes. The care holidays enable kids to come to better terms with their own condition in an environment that is not only fun but supportive too. Many children with the condition may be facing a lifetime of up to seven injections daily, as well as blood glucose tests constantly. Should diabetes note be handled correctly it could lead to even more serious and long term health problems such as damage of the kidneys and blindness.
