PARIS, FRANCE, October 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Louvre in Paris is currently showcasing Paper Museums, which reveals the documents and tools of antiquarians in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Running until January 3rd 2011, this is sure to entice plenty of history enthusiasts to take a trip to the famous arts space from their Paris hotel.
While the focus of the display is centred on the collections of images and documents held by famous antiquarians, there will also be a selection of tools and instruments on show.
According to the organisers of the exhibition, such objects paved the way for the academic disciplines of archaeology and art history.
"Antiquarians in the 17th and 18th centuries often compiled their knowledge in imposing figurative books of antiquities, like 'paper museums' that displayed, through engravings and drawings, a significant number of classical works," they explained.
Some of the documents in the collection will show attendees how such academics classified pieces of art, while others will demonstrate the effect that their efforts had on culture at the time.
The exhibition is included in the price of a normal entrance pass - costing EUR9.50 (GBP8.30) - to the Louvre and can be found on the first floor of the Sully Wing, in the Chapelle Room.
People can visit the arts space from 09:00 local time every day - except Tuesday, when it is closed - with the building closing at 22:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 18:00 every other day of the week.
