DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, October 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- German cities are famous for their Christmas markets and Dusseldorf is no exception, with traditional stalls springing up as the festive season approaches.
The Dusseldorf Christmas Market is due to begin on Thursday November 18th this year, with yuletide shopping and special events spread across six separate locations in the old town.
Running until December 23rd, the event should provide the perfect experience for Dusseldorf hotel guests looking to soak up the city's festive atmosphere during their stay.
The Marktplatz in front of the town hall is traditionally where most of the huts are located, but Christmas treats, hand-crafted gifts and mugs of gluhwein can be found all over the city centre.
People searching for presents to take back home with them should find plenty to choose from, as the stalls offer everything from wooden nutcrackers to hand-blown glassware.
For the first time this year, the market is set to include a free outdoor ice rink, which will be located at Gustaf-Grundgens-Platz.
Elsewhere, visitors can enjoy the Burgermarkt on Flinger Strasse, where the huts of the market traders are designed to reflect the architecture of Dusseldorf's old town houses.
According to Dusseldorf's tourism authority, people attending the Christmas market should take the opportunity to walk down the Konigsallee - the city's famous central boulevard.
This is because the thousands of festive lights strung along the avenue will ensure its many giant chestnut trees "radiate a seasonal brilliance" after dark.
Meanwhile, holidaymakers with young children are advised to head to the section of the market at Schadowplatz.
This area is described as the most "family-friendly" place to visit, as it features a puppet theatre tent and other special activities.
Dusseldorf's Christmas Market will be open from 11:00 to 20:00 local time between Sunday and Thursday each week. On Fridays and Saturdays, the stalls and food outlets can be visited until 21:00.
