Quinn-Direct's Tips on Beating the Costs of Petrol Hikes

With petrol prices continuing to rise, people are looking for other ways to save money. Quinn-direct provides tips on how to beat these ever increasing petrol costs.

LONDON, ENGLAND, November 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the cost of petrol continuing to soar, you may be looking at ways in which you can make cuts in other areas of your motoring spend in order to help balance out the costs. Car insurance specialists Quinn Direct Insurance have come up with some money-saving tips which may help save you cash:

- If you want to make a conscious decision to do less mileage due to increasing car fuel costs, then if you work in an office environment, why not see if you can work from home one day a week? Over the course of year, you'll save the cost of around 90 commutes!

- Check your car insurance cover to make sure you are not paying for something twice. For example, if you have a Quinn Direct motor insurance policy, car breakdown cover is included for free, so there is no need to buy this additional cover.

- Also, since you bought your car insurance, have there been any changes that may affect it which you haven't told your insurer about? As an example, if you have a named younger driver under your car cover who no longer needs to be insured under your policy, having them removed from your cover may save you some money. Or maybe you've upgraded the security on your motor? Tell your insurer and you may get a discount.

- Make sure that your car is running as efficiently and as cost-effectively as possible and do regular, weekly maintenance checks (or more often or less, depending on how often you use your car). Check the tyre pressures - tyres that aren't inflated to the correct level potentially put a strain your engine, which means you'll burn more fuel.

- Similarly, don't carry around unnecessary items in your car, which all add to the weight and again, burn more fuel.

- If you use your car for short, local journeys, try and plan your routes so that you encompass as many of these journeys in to one. For example, instead of popping to your DIY store one day and then the supermarket just down the road from it the next, before you start a journey, try and think about any other things you could do en-route (for example, dropping stuff off at the local tip; filling up with petrol at the same time as you do the shopping, rather than waiting until you need some etc). These small changes could make a real difference to how much you spend on fuel.
