WINDSOR, ENGLAND, November 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the release of the biggest game of the year, Call of Duty: Black Ops and the launch of the Kinect for Microsoft's Xbox 360, it's been a fantastic week for gamers. We have to remember though, that all it takes is a spilt drink and things could go terribly wrong, especially if you don't have games console insurance.
24% of all games console insurance claims are due to spilt drinks according to specialist gadget insurance provider Protectyourbubble.com.
Stephen Ebbett of Protectyourbubble.com goes on to explain: "Consoles are no longer just for solitary gamers. Families and groups of friends getting together for a karaoke contest on SingStar or a competitive game of tennis on the Wii Sport in the living room with food and drink nearby ups the risk of spillages. Unfortunately, electrics and liquids just don't mix.
"Games consoles are expensive to buy and replace, which is why it pays to make sure they are covered against breakdown, accidental damage, loss and theft. Given the high amount of claims we see for spilt drinks, it is worth making sure your policy covers you for liquid spillages as standard."
More than a third (35%) of all games console insurance claims are due to software problems causing the console to break down.
The Xbox 360's now infamous 'Red Ring of Death' accounts for 14% of all games console insurance claims. Protectyourbubble.com has spoken to numerous Xbox owners and many have reported flashing red lights around the games console's power button. This flashing red light indicates a problem that may cause the games console to freeze during play and can sometimes affect the game's graphics.
Hardware failures that occurred after the manufacturer's warranty had expired, accounted for 16% of claims, while the ever frustrating problem of a game being stuck in the games console managed to make it into the top five, with 5% of all games console insurance claims.
Top five most common games console claims:
1. Software problems (33%)
2. Spilt drink (24%)
3. Hardware failure (16%)
4. 'Red Ring of Death' (14%)
5. Game stuck in the console (5%)
