/24-7PressRelease/ - PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL - September 13, 2006 - September 11, 2006/Self help E-newsletter subscribers are spreading word of the 'fitness mindset' in a viral fashion amongst friends and family.
The Trust for America's Health released a report last week, titled 'F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing America citing concrete trends in the rise of the deadly and costly epidemic. Subscribers to a free 'fitness mindset' e-newsletter have been sharing the concepts of this type of mindset with friends, family and co-workers. If this viral exchange of information continues to grow it will prove to be a powerful deterrent to the obesity epidemic. According to 'Secrets of a Trainer' publisher Joey Atlas, the word of mouth referrals to the free e-newsletter are a clear sign that people want to know how to 'think' about being fit and healthy and not just how to work out.
"What's particularly distressing is that we think we understand why this is happening. It's happening because the environment is built to promote obesity, and it is so pervasive that in order to make changes, we really need to change everything," said Cathy Nonas, director of the obesity and diabetes programs at North General Hospital in New York City and a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. An obesity pandemic threatens to overwhelm health systems around the globe with illnesses such as diabetes and heart diseases, stated experts at an international news conference.
Paul Zimmet, Chairman of the International Congress on Obesity recently said, "The insidious, creeping pandemic of obesity is now engulfing the entire world and is as big a threat as global warming and bird flu."
The World Health Organization says more than 1 billion adults are overweight and 300 million of them are obese, putting them at much higher risk of diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, stroke and some forms of cancer.
"The only way the environment is going to change is by individuals taking responsibility for how they exist in the environment and taking proactive steps to exhibit their inherent will power through lifestyle habits that will cause the environment to change." said Joey Atlas, MS - Exercise Physiology.
