PHOENIX, AZ, November 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- By a razor thin margin of 1400 votes, residents of the state of Arizona passed Proposition 203, which will allow the legalization of medical marijuana.
Arizona will become the 15th state to enact medical marijuana legislation. The medical marijuana laws in the state of Arizona will allow those who are in need, and meet the state's medical guidelines the ability to obtain a prescription for marijuana from their physicians every 2 weeks.
The proposition will allow medical grade marijuana would be sold from approved dispensaries.
However, for those patients living more than 25 miles away from a dispensary and authorized to do so, growing their own plants 12 at a time would be allowed.
The legalized marijuana prescriptions would go to those suffering from cancer, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Alzheimer's, and other chronic and debilitating medical conditions. Supporters say the positive effects of its use are evident for reduction of pain, and discomfort, allowing for an increase in quality of life for many patients.
Some States, like California, are ready to legalize marijuana altogether however the state of Arizona is just considering allowing pot for prescribed patients. California has very loose definitions and regulations on allowed uses for medical marijuana, while Arizona's legal usage is much more restrictive. If caught using marijuana illegally without a prescription in the state of Arizona, criminal penalties would remain the same.
