PORTLAND, OR, December 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MrsP.com, the award-winning children's website, and its star, Kathy Kinney, announced today they have joined the 2010 Adopt-A-School program, an initiative of the Association of American Publishers (AAP). The week-long event, staged in cooperation with the New York City Department of Education and the Children's Book Council, matches authors and celebrated personalities with New York City public schools during the week of December 6-10. The goal of the event is to inspire a love of books and reading in students.
"Mrs. P's sacred mission is to expose kids to the endless joys of books and reading, so she was delighted to adopt a school," said Kinney, who before portraying Mrs. P, was best known as Mimi on The Drew Carey Show. "Mrs. P also adores New York City and loves meeting the students there. They're so sharp and funny and fun!"
Mrs. P will read a story from her new book, Mrs. P's Four Favorite Fairy Tales and Funny Stories, to first and second-grade students at PS 217, in Brooklyn. MrsP.com will donate 25 copies of the new book, which is interactive and can used to improve reading skills when used in conjunction with Mrs. P's free website, to the school's library.
Mrs. P also works with AAP's nationwide Get Caught Reading campaign, which reminds people of all ages how much fun it is to read. Mrs. P joins other well-known figures, including Drew Carey, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Donald Duck, Whoopi Goldberg, The Rugrats, Jane Seymour, Spiderman and Robin Williams, who have all been "caught reading" their favorite books in print ads and posters seen by millions of people across the country.
