COLUMBUS, OH, December 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Central Ohio Home & Garden Show announced today that it will again hold its Amateur Cake Decorating Competition. This year's competition will take place on Sunday, March 6, 2011, when five of the region's most talented amateur cake decorators will have the chance to compete for cash prizes before a live audience. The 2011 Central Ohio Home & Garden Show is slated for February 26 - March 6 at the Ohio Expo Center.
Show guests can watch the Amateur Cake Decorating Competition from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, with setup taking place from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Judging will take place from 3:00-3:30 p.m. and will be led by Dispatch Food Editor Robin Davis. Show guests will have the opportunity to sample one of the cakes following judging. The Cake Competition theme is "Gardens that Rock," in keeping with the theme for the Garden Showcase at the 55th Annual Central Ohio Home & Garden Show. Decorators are challenged to find creative inspiration in rock and roll music as featured in the 13 full-size living landscapes. Each garden will feature one of rock's greatest icons, eras or legendary songs, such as Elvis' Blue Suede Shoes, Kiss' Detroit Rock City, etc. The Grand Prize winner will receive $500 cash. Second place receives $250 cash and third place receives $100 cash.
Cake decorators are encouraged to email one or more photos, plus a description, of a past cake masterpiece to [email protected] or mail them to Christy Muhoberac, The Columbus Dispatch, 34 S. Third St., Columbus, OH 43215. Entries must be received by noon on Wednesday, Feb. 2 for consideration. Jpeg attachments should be 300 dpi or mailed prints must be at least 4" X 6". Entrants must include their name, mailing address, e-mail address, date of birth and daytime phone number. The five most creative decorators will be chosen for the live competition on March 6, where they will decorate a cake before a live audience and compete for cash prizes at the Central Ohio Home & Garden Show. Due to the Central Ohio Home & Garden Show's popularity, show management has extended the hours to accommodate day trips, corporate and social groups and clubs. The new times for the show will be noon to 8 p.m. weekdays, Tuesday through Friday, and an hour earlier at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Thus, weekend show hours are Saturdays 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Sundays 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; CLOSED MONDAY, February 28th. Tickets are $12 at the door for adults. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.
