DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, January 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fans of jazz music may like to make Dusseldorf hotel reservations for the end of the month, when veteran trombonist Chris Barber will be in town.
The Hertfordshire-born musician is due to perform at the city's Tonhalle as part of his 80th birthday celebrations, which have featured concerts at numerous venues around Europe.
Barber's 11-piece group - The Big Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band - will delight members of the audience with a selection of new tracks and classic tunes from jazz greats such as Duke Ellington and Miles Davis.
Ice Cream, the trombonist's biggest hit, is also sure to feature in the band's repertoire when they take to the stage on Saturday January 29th.
According to the Dusseldorf tourism office, Barber's group have become the best-known Dixieland ensemble with New Orleans jazz influences currently performing in Europe.
The band leader continues to play with vigour and enthusiasm despite his advanced years, which means fans heading to the gig can expect a memorable night of classic sounds.
Barber formed his first band at the age of 19, inspired by the King Oliver Creole Jazz Band.
Over the years, he has played with musicians such as the late trumpeter Ken Colyer, skiffle pioneer Lonnie Donegan and acclaimed trumpet player Pat Halcox.
Tickets for the Tonhalle concert can be purchased online, priced between EUR24 and EUR49 (GBP19.90 and GBP40.70) plus booking fee. The music is due to start at 20:00 local time.
