PHUKET, THAILAND, January 19, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Chiang Mai Flower Festival 2011 will feature Thailand's largest collection of flowers and sees residents creating intricately decorated floats which will be paraded through the city's streets. Parades typically include reconstructions of animals, temples and scenes from the Hindu epic the Ramayana, all of which are made entirely of flowers.
Plant enthusiasts can see a diverse range of flowers ranging from carnations, roses, tulips and chrysanthemums to rare varieties of orchid. The event will run from 4th to 6th February 2011 and as a period of cooler weather in the North the festival represents a time when the flowers will be in full bloom.
Horticulturists holidaying in Chiang Mai hotels can visit the festival at the Buak Haad Park which is also set to include displays of the 3000 species of orchid that are flowering at this time of year. Along with the displays, the festival will include a beauty pageant to find Chiang Mai's flower queen who then acts as a good will ambassador for the flower growers.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "As the largest festival of its kind in Thailand the show attracts people from around the country and abroad. Hotels will be much busier as a result which could lead to complications for people if they haven't booked a place before arriving in the city."
