COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND, January 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fans of contemporary folk music have a good reason to visit Gloucester during a Cotswold hotel stay later this year.
Seth Lakeman, currently one of the UK's most acclaimed artists in the genre, is set to perform at the Gloucester Guildhall on Monday March 14th 2011.
The concert has been billed as an appearance by the Seth Lakeman Trio, with the singer-songwriter set to be joined on stage by Benji Kirkpatrick and Cormac Byrne.
Members of the audience can look forward to hearing songs from the Devon-born musician's four studio albums, including his 2004 Mercury Prize-nominated effort Kitty Jay.
Multi-instrumentalist Lakeman started his career in a band with his two brothers and later found success as a solo artist, with many critics crediting him with bringing folk music to a new audience.
In 2007, he was named singer of the year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and also picked up the best album prize for Freedom Fields.
His latest effort, 2010's Hearts and Minds, was described as "very impressive" in a review by BBC Music.
Critic Jude Rogers noted the newfound "rock edge" of Lakeman's songs, while also praising the "fascinating yet accessible and very lively textures" of his music.
Tickets for his Gloucester gig are priced at GBP15 in advance and GBP18 on the door. Doors will open at 19:30 GMT.
