LARCHMONT, NY, February 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Sunday, February 6th at 10:00 am, Clarke Auction's Super Bowl Kick Off will feature 400+ lots drawn from estates in Pelham, the East and West Side, Park Avenue, Forest Hills, Scarsdale, Larchmont, Riverdale, and the personal storage unit of Hiram Hoelzer, noted New York and Greenwich art restorer.
Fine Art includes the final pieces from the estate of a Manhattan gallerist, including works by the Turkish Avni Arbas, Robert DeNiro Sr., and Sigmund Menkes; a Long Island collection of paintings by James Gale Tyler, Benjamin Champney, Milton Lowell, and a superb Newcomb Macklin giltwood frame; the Greenwich Connecticut personal storage of the noted art restorer Hiram Hoelzer including a rare 1932 New York Theatre mural signed by David Wu Ject-Key, a Chinese-American artist who exhibited at the National Academy; portraits by Ellen Emmet Rand, Margaret Fitzhugh Browne, Albert Rosenthal, and Albert Sterner; a life portrait of John Marin by Leo Mielziner; and a 1969 abstract oil by the Puerto Rican artist Paul Camacho.
Of special interest are two market fresh 18th C. Spanish Colonial oils
Sculpture highlights include a c.1900 marble bust by A.Piazza, classical bronzes signed Fremiet, Huzel, Moreau; a large Japonaise bronze maiden signed A. Lanson, and a modernist bas-relief initialed CMI.
Antique maps include many sixteenth and seventeeth century examples including a c.1595 Mercator "America siue India Nova", a. c.1600 Sebastian Munster "America sive Novi Orbis, Nova.", Hondius maps of Europe, a 1671 J. Moxon map "Totius Orbis Terrarum..." as well as 19th C. French and American maps, including the 1882 Clarence E. Dutton "Atlas of the Grand Canon"(Canyon).
Midcentury Modern examples are a Paul Evans mixed metal coffee table, an Evans cityscape dining table, a pair of LeCorbusier Chairs by Cassina; Danish Midcentury Modern; and a pair of end tables, possibly Kjaerholm. The sale also features three Karim Rashid "Kite" chairs.
Antique highlights include two Continental commodes, one marble-topped; a 19th C. harvest table; a 19th C. two over three chest; a 19th C. Swedish Biedermeier sofa, and a 18th C. English five-drawer chest.
Chandeliers and lighting examples are a fine signed Handel stained glass shade on later base; pairs of buillotte lamps, pairs of decorative tole lamps, a midcentury floor lamp and multiple pairs of and individual table lamps. Midcentury lighting also includes a Gino Sarfatti ArteLuce pendant light and an Erik Hoglund Metal and Kosta Boda small chandelier.
Silver such asa Tiffany and Co and Georg Jensen flatware; including a ninety piece Jensen "Acorn" service, a Christofle service; .800 Silver Judaica; a pair of magnificent .800 silver candelabra, possibly Italian; and assorted lots of Sterling and Continental silver still being catalogued.
Decorative Arts include Meissen, Dresden, Steuben, Terplitz, pairs of older Chinese Foos and a Chinese porcelain temple; several pairs of bronze rococo, gilt bronze, and bronze figural candelabra; a Tiffany and Delft chinoiserie garniture set from a single owner collection of sixty clocks, and a rare signed bronze garniture set by Joseph Martinus Stultiens.
