PHUKET, THAILAND, February 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- 2010 was the 400th anniversary of the death of Caravaggio and following that is the closing event of a long running celebration. On the 9th of March 2011, Naples will be hosting a conference as a tribute to this great artist.
Caravaggio is an Italian artist that was active between 1593 and 1610. Paintings by Caravaggio combined a dramatic use of lighting with an elastic observation of the human physical and emotional state.
The artist was infamous while he lived but was almost forgotten about until the 20th century, when his importance to the development of art in the West was rediscovered. Caravaggio is thought to have had a formative influence on the school of Baroque painting.
The 400th year of his death has been celebrated throughout Italy with numerous events and exhibitions. This final event will be important to students of his art and fans of his art.
Only about 80 of the works Caravaggio created still survive. The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew was recently discovered, authenticated, and restored having been stored in Hampton Court and previously considered a copy.
Naples is the perfect venue for this conference, which will attract hundreds of enthusiasts and experts for a final celebration of the artists work.
Lek Boonlert, the Head of Marketing at DirectRooms.com, said: "Naples hotels may be fully booked during the period of the conference so advance booking is essential to secure a comfortable stay for the event."
