/24-7PressRelease.com/ - Buffalo, NY, December 1, 2004 – “Allah Made Me Funny – The Official Muslim Comedy Tourâ€, which has multi-cultural audiences and high-profile media outlets buzzing about it’s cutting-edge use of comedy to heal post 9/11 relations between Muslims and non-Muslims, will make a highly anticipated stop in Buffalo, New York, on December 4, announced Azhar Usman, one of the headlining comedians on the tour.
“We're coming to cities across the country because we have a compelling argument for humanity. Our tour offers a forum for integration between Muslims and non-Muslims to come together to laugh at cross-cultural differences while recognizing that our core values are the same,†says Usman.
Allah Made Me Funny, which is the first-of-its-kind tour, addresses stereotypes about Muslims and pokes fun at Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The comedic material is designed to promote cross-cultural understanding and tolerance.
“Comedy is the perfect tool to disarm people and invite them to think outside of their fixed cultural perceptions,†says Usman. “Through humor we are able to play with stereotypes and demonstrate that laughter is universal.â€
The tour, which launched in Washington, D.C., continues to receive international media attention from high-profile print and broadcast outlets including BBC, CBC, The Washington Post, The Chicago Sun-Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Baltimore Sun, Time Magazine, and numerous NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates.
The tour’s show in Buffalo will feature two of America’s top Muslim comedians including Azhar Usman (nicknamed the Ayatollah of Comedy) who is an attorney turned comedian and Azeem, a stand-up comic, activist and founder of Azeem’s Kids Foundation, a South Carolina-based charity dedicated to helping children who are in foster and juvenile care.
Usman and Azeem are usually joined by Preacher Moss, the tour’s executive producer and a former writer for George Lopez and Saturday Night Live’s Darrell Hammond and Damon Wayans. However, Moss will be performing in the UK when the tour comes to Buffalo.
“Muslims are not traditionally associated with humor; but through our comedy, we are able to satirize our culture while generating a better understanding of who we are as a community,†said Azeem. “The fact that we are receiving support from media, local Muslim organizations and audiences of all ethnic backgrounds, is proof that our messages are not only entertaining but socially relevant.â€
The Muslim Comedy Tour will perform at Williamsville East High School (located at 151 Paradise Road) on December 4. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available by contacting Amil at 716-907-3929 or amil@[email protected].
