LANCASTER, PA, March 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., a leading global provider of advanced optical solutions, and Ixia, a major provider of converged IP network test solutions, will be conducting a joint 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40 GbE) CFP demonstration in Sumitomo Electric's booth (1624) during the OFC/NFOEC 2011. The demonstration will showcase Sumitomo Electric's 40 GbE CFP optical transceiver for 40 km reach and Ixia's "K2" high-speed Ethernet interfaces.
"This demonstration will prove the viability of extended 40 GbE links using 1310 nm sources," said Ichiro Kono, general manager of Optical Components Division of Sumitomo Electric Device Innovations, Inc. "It will pave the way for a rapid commercial development of 40 GbE systems."
Sumitomo Electric has already released the 40 GbE CFP optical transceiver for 10 km reach and, in addition, has developed the world's first 40 GbE CFP (transceiver) for 40 km reach by using a high-speed 4-wavelength CWDM laser diode for the optical transmitter and a high-speed avalanche photo diode for the optical receiver. The maximum power consumption is compliant with CFP MSA power class 1 (8 W max.) at a comparable level of that of the 40 GbE CFP for 10 km reach.
Sumitomo Electric is sampling the 40 GbE CFP for 40 km reach ahead of the mass production planned for the 4th quarter of 2011. The mass production will be done at Sumitomo Electric Device Innovations, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric.
