RALEIGH, NC, March 23, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- AmeriGlide, an online retailer of medical mobility lifts, is proud to announce the return of the AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship for the fall 2011 semester. This scholarship, awarded every year, honors a wheelchair user who is currently attending college.
"We're proud to bring this scholarship back," said Tim Ziehwein, AmeriGlide's Vice President of sales. "Wheelchair users can have a tough time in college and we want to honor the strength and perseverance that they represent."
Last year's winner, Nura Aly of DePaul University, wrote a profound essay about the problems a wheelchair user faces in college. "Nura not only wrote a great essay but turned out to be a hero for a lot of us. To go to a school that had tons of accessibility issues, and then to be one of the leaders to help change that culture around, takes character - and that's something Nura had tons of when I talked to her on the phone."
To qualify for the AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship, students need to be enrolled full time in a college or graduate level program, have a 3.0 GPA, and be a legal resident of the United States. Students will also need to have one full year of college experience before they can be awarded this scholarship. The winner is then chosen based on an essay question to which students must respond in 500 words or more.
The AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship is set to kick off on March 28th, and applications will be accepted until June 6th.
