CORNWALL, ENGLAND, April 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Camborne in Cornwall is due to hold its annual celebration of the area's industrial heritage on Saturday April 30th.
The community event is known as Trevithick Day after Richard Trevithick, the inventor and pioneer of high-pressure steam power who was born close by in 1771.
Trevithick's inventions helped to increase the efficiency of engines used to pump water from the lower levels of tin and copper mines in the south-west, while he also laid claim to the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive.
People visiting Camborne on April 30th will encounter street entertainment, model exhibitions, market stalls, vintage vehicles and several moving steam engines.
Trevithick's Dance, which features a procession of 100 adults dressed in the traditional Cornish colours of black and gold, is one of several traditions observed on the day.
There is also the Bal-maidens and Miners dance, which involves 250 local schoolchildren, a collection of miniature steam engines and the Camborne Town Band.
Trevithick Day is completely free to attend and offers visitors a rare insight into the culture and heritage of this Cornish community.
People planning to enjoy the celebration can find luxury hotels in Cornwall at LateRooms.com, which features the Jamaica Inn Cornwall.
