CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA, April 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Reggae legends Toots and The Maytals are playing in Cairns next month in a preview to their show at Byron Bay's Bluesfest.
The group have been together for more than four decades, having risen to prominence in 1964 with their debut album I'll Never Grow Old - Presenting The Maytals.
Including remastered records and greatest hits compilations, the band have released more than 50 LPs.
They are even credited with coining the word "reggae" on their 1968 hit single Do The Reggay.
Although their first album won critical acclaim, it was not until they launched tracks Funky Kingston and Reggae Got Soul in the early 1970s that they began to forge an international reputation.
Their most recent LP, Twist and Flip, was released in 2010 and features the likes of Almighty Way, Bye Bye and What Kind of Woman.
They will play the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns on April 20th 2011. Doors open at 18:30 local time and the show starts at 19:30.
Admission costs AU$60 and is only available to over-15s.
The venue is located on Collins Avenue in Edge Hill, just four kilometres from Cairns city centre.
